The South African Savings Institute (SASI) is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to developing a robust culture of saving in South Africa.
At SASI’s launch in April 2001, Finance Minister, Trevor Manuel, drew attention to the poor savings rate; disparate living standards; lack of financial literacy and the poor growth of our economy. He noted that these concerns may all be mitigated by an improvement in savings culture by all sectors of the South African population.
SASI ‘s founding members were the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and Ipac (now known as Acsis). Today SASI is reliant for its operational funding on its sole anchor sponsor the IDC.
- The IDC is a self-financing, state-owned, national development corporation that provides financing to entrepreneurs engaged in competitive industries. The IDC identifies and supports opportunities not yet addressed by the market.
- Acsis is an international independent financial planning company. Ipac specializes in developing and implementing effective investment strategies for clients. Clients include individuals, corporations, institutions, retirement funds and professional firms.
SASI is governed by a widely representative Board of Directors who, through their business and personal networks, promote the work of the Institute to all sectors of society:
